Why did this shop operate so long with hundreds of violations?
This is perfect example of that I have been saying all along. The BATF and other law enforcement agencies don't have enough funding to enforce the existing laws.Pass more laws without funding, just more laws that won't be enforced. In the case of the felon buying ammo, that happened because even though there is law on the books, the ATF never came up with a form for dealers to use because, they didn't have enough funding to do background checks on ammo buyers. The last time they were able to upgrade there computers was in the early 90's.
"The BATF and other law enforcement agencies don't have enough funding to enforce the existing laws" - They had enough money to watch firearms walk into Mexico. Funding is n't the issue here whatsoever. It's leadership and justice, neither of which seems present.
How the new "tougher" laws recently passed in CT going to change the fact that existing laws are not being enforced?
This has nothing to do with funding, it's a failure of leadership and focus, something the ATF has been known for recently.
Sounds more like a leadership problem than a funding problem.
Don't know whose more despicable, the gun shop owner or the attorney defending him. What a way to make a living.
"Don't know whose more despicable, the gun shop owner or the attorney defending him. What a way to make a living." - If not the shop (which is where the faut does lie, why not the ATF which failed in its' defined and mandated job? Strange.
The pro gun lobby/GOP make sure the funding and the leadership is not in place by their actions. Lack of enforcement is just what they wanted. Their goal was to do away with the ATF but that was to hard so under fund and not appoint a director is the next best thing.
Didn't I read someplace that the GOP Congress rejects the appointment to head the ATF?? If it cannot be run properly then I would point to the marvelous Congress that we have.
