Twins' Plouffe quickly becoming a target for opposing pitchers

  • Article by: PHIL MILLER , Star Tribune

The Twins’ third baseman is getting a little recognition, a sort-of tribute, from opposing pitchers these days. And it hurts a little bit.

Any truth to the rumor that for $15.00 you will be allowed access and given a shovel anytime between Thursday morning and Friday afternoon?

kgk2Apr. 11, 1312:10 AM

I have $15 that the game is postponed Friday to give the Twins relievers an extra day off.

I heard if you show up they will give you a $15 shovel to help, and you get to keep the shovel. And you will work right up to the first pitch of the game and get to keep any of the balls coming your way during batting practice. PS... Why do they need batting practice anyway? Hasn't helped much lately, now, has it?

“They have a book on me, and until I make an adjustment, it’s going to keep happening,” Plouffe said." - Back in the day, it would have stopped after a couple of his teammates came up and in against the other team's big guys. Of course, in today's baseball, that isn't allowed.

Plouffe looks lost at the plate. As does Morneau. Doumit has been wortheless, and Mauer is striking out every other at bat. Won't win many games that way. Especially when the manager insists on starting a .050 hitter in the lead off spot every night.

Love Plouffe. He seems to appreciate being a baseball player and is always trying hard. He has a lot of potential and continually improves. He'll have some off days and slumps, to be sure, but you can never question his heart.

Last year, there was a popular uprising that urged the Twins to replace Vavra with Brunansky as hitting coach. The Twins obliged. So far, it looks like a failed move.

thome2011Apr. 11, 13 3:48 PM

@jaytee1 The problem with the move is that Vavra is still on staff. In fact, when the players are at the plate, Vavra is 90 feet away. It's tough to change your ways when the man who taught you is staring you down from 90 feet down the 3rd base line.

Nice break for the Twins today. Now if they can get Friday's game postponed....Kansas series was just plain hard to watch. Not just the Twinks but many teams so far this spring could use some warm weather! Several more games should have been cancelled around the league the last couple of weeks. Come on spring, show up.

I seriously doubt the opposing pitchers lose any sleep on planning how to pitch to Plouffey...he's had what, a handful of homeruns since last July 3rd? Hardly the stats that make pitchers cringe when they see him step into the box...Prolific power hitter in Minnesota though!!
