But not Air Force One. Obama will continue to fly around at unprecedented rates for vacations and propaganda junkets. Nope, no austerity or sequester problems for the White House. By the way - nice little party at the White House last night!
Hmm. a 1% cut (that is not a cut, it's a smaller increase) results in 1/3 of the fleet being grounded? Makes sense.
Our military is larger than the next 25 combined (24 of them are our allies)And they waste enormous amounts of money on $90 dollar hammers pay twice as much for ammo and every thing else they buy .Simply cut their budget little by little and make them get by on less and less until they prioritize and become more efficient
Within the last month, Obama has given Syrian opposition 60 million dollars, Obama has given Egypt 150 million dollars, and Obama has given Jordan 200 million dollars. And today, Nobel boy has announced he has even more of our tax dollars for those Syrian opposition troopers.
Not sure if anyone is paying attention, but things are getting a little heated in Iran and in North Korea, but since Obama has our economy doing so well that he is able to dole out that much of tax dollars, I'm sure he will prove just as effective with the upcoming situation with our enemies.
Its all posturing. The generals thing the public is stupid and buys into this stuff (mostly a correct assessment). Already at any one time 15-20 of air operations are at stand-down for cycling maintenance. Funny I don't hear them cancelling the troubled F35 or retiring the swarms of generals they have running around the Pentagon.
I say average the top 5 defense budgets and there is our number for defense spending. Cricketed is correct we don't have any other nation that comes close the the money we spend. Our military leaders have never had to manage their money it's always been nearly unlimited. 15 billion each for a aircraft carrier plus the cost for all the support ships factor in aircraft costs, fuel and crew costs and they are very expensive. We have 11 carriers and the uss Gerald Ford is being built. Fleets of nuclear submarines and military bases spread out all over the globe. We had plenty of things we can do without we just need to force the military leadership to cut the fat.
Mothball another third and let the rest of the world know they should pay us if they want us to defend them. Our expenditures on defense are obscene.
Re:"Our military is larger than the next 25 combined (24 of them are our allies)": I think we can all agree that we can become energy independent and remove ourselves from the vast majority of 130 countries we are currently stationed. It's time for Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Australia to start carrying their own defense burdens. As for the Middle East? Let them kill each other. Don't be surprised if the Israelis take over the whole place though if it gets rough.
The military could order one less new fighter plane and pretty much pay for the Blue Angels entire flying season. The Blue Angels charge air shows almost nothing for the appearances. Charge the air shows say $5 a person and that would raise a lot of money to keep the Blue Angels flying. I have also read the Blue Angels air show contract and they could certainly cut some costs by making folks share hotel rooms and rental cars while on the road.
We have around 2,000 brand new mothballed M1 Abrams tanks sitting in the desert that have never been used and probably never will be because it supposedly will cost too much to start up the production line if we shut it down. We also have 100s of C-17 cargo planes in storage that the pentagon doesn't want but congress keeps buying because they provide jobs in their districts. When are we going to stop this wastefulness?
