Thank you Al, Amy, and all the others who think that there are a whole bunch of other things that should be done before touching the benefit itself. Bargaining for the price of medicines is one, the way BC/BS and others do. Also, eliminating direct t0 consumer advertising will kill the crazes over the next new, exciting pill. Raise the income levels taxed as well. By the way, half of these affect me.

If Ellison and Franken are complaining, then one can only assume that this budget is a step in the right direction.

Raise the limit of income subject to SS taxation before resorting to cuts. Or at least do a little of both. Why should it all be on the retirees and the sick?

"Ellison and Franken argue that Social Security does not contribute to the nations fiscal problem because the trust fund currently has a surplus". How blind can they be? We need legislatures with a better understanding of the pending fiscal problem. We are approaching 17 trillion in debt and Social Security will be broke within most of our lifetime. We need better representation.

Removing the cap on ss taxes is the right first step.

Removing the cap on ss taxes is the right first step.-----------the ONLY thing this will do is redistribute wealth. That is the goal of the left. to take from those that earn there income to give it to those that don't. There is a cap on taxes because there is a cap on what you get back! To be fair to everyone, you would have to rase the tax on everyone! But the left is not interested in fairness. Their only goal is to punish those that work hard and reward the lazy just so they can get more votes!

We need a budget. Social Security and Medicare combined are the biggest budget expenditures. The decades-long notion that these programs are the sacred, untouchable cows of federal expenses needs to be ignored for what it is — vote buying by politicians.

It's time for that "shared pain" everyone talks about but never follow through.

Republicans would never vote for removing the cap on FICA taxes. Never. We can't even move forward with that proposal unless/until the Democrats have a filibuster proof majority in both houses.

"Removing the cap on ss taxes is the right first step.-----------the ONLY thing this will do is redistribute wealth...To be fair to everyone..." - No, removing the cap will make it fair to everyone. I do not make 100k a year, neither do 99% of Americans. We have to pay into this fund on 100% of our income no matter who uses the program. So should those making more, everyone should be paying in based on all their income if anyone is. That is what justice, and fair, looks like. Not protection of subclasses of Americans wealth. The president isn’t interested in just, neither is congress. Face it, until things change we are all food for whoever buys these individuals.
