Budget cuts means spending less. Smaller army, navy, so on. We have 38,000 troops in Japan, Germany, Guam and so on. They are a "deterrent"? A hugely expensive army in waiting? Sort of an insurance policy. Do I hope they are never used? Do I thnk they serve a purpose? How can anyone judge?
Grounding all these planes probably saves more energy and is greener than all of Obama's green initiatives put together-light rail, high speed rail, cash for clunkers, Solyndra, electric cars (Volt, Fiskar, etc), windmills, photovoltaics, toilet flushing, and all the others.
Let's ground more please. Our military is way too big and costly. And, spending billions on new ways to kill others is ridiculous.
Why are we flying them all anyhow? It won't hurt anybody (except some pride) to put 1/3 them in the hangar until we really need them.
Bipartisan Washington says nothing will be cut that jeopardizes national security. One third of USAF planes are redundant? Let's cut the Navy, Army, Marines!
This is OK. Think of all the C02 these planes emit while doing absolutely nothing of real value. We will live through this...
Generally the chaos that was supposed to have resulted from the sequester has not materialized. I guess the fear mongering was most probably fear mongering. I suspect we won't notice a difference due to the slight decrease in defense funding either.
It is amazing how a cut of less than the projected budget increase for this year can result in the grounding of all these planes, etc... Makes me wonder how gov't functions. Never mind I know - spend, spend, spend and then spend some more.
70% of the US operational budget goes to Defense, Vets Admin, and Homeland Security. We can cut back some (Spending budget - all money passing out the door, no matter the source. Operational budget - all money paid for government activities that are not programs that distribute money paid from off budget sources or that loan money collected from like loans- things not counted in the operational budget are student loans paid out that are funded by student loan paybacks, Social Security money given to the Treasury by the SSIA to distribute and funded by FICA and the interest on borrowed trust money, SBA and Development loans, etc.)
Yawn. Now let's mothball half of the Army/AF/Navy/Marine bases and return our over-extended troops to civilian life.
