To overnight ship a 1 pound box from Minneapolis to Los Angeles on FedEx costs $109.20. There are lots of round trip tickets for a human being to fly to Los Angeles and back over the next month for $274. Does anyone else think that complaining about a small seat or bathroom is a little silly?
If the number of flights is down, why is there such a rush to expand airport capacity?
It would be nice to find an economy seat that doesn't involve knees grinding into the seat in front of me.
@mnbusdr, humans are self-moving cargo who manage their own last-mile transportation at both the origin and destination, separate from the airline ticket.
It's untrue that this doesn't stop people from flying. Five years ago I flew everywhere for business. Now because of the cost, the inconvenience and the unpleasant experience on planes, I use web conferencing tools. I've gone from 55 flights in 2007 to 12 last year.
re:"... humans are self-moving cargo who manage their own last-mile transportation at both the origin and destination..."-----But humans also don't weigh 1 pound and take up a 6x6x3 inch space.
If you are really interested in comparing apples to apples, to FedEx ship a 200 pound package one-way from airport to airport only costs $1920.00. Round trip like a human passenger would prefer would cost $3840.00, with FedEx doing nothing "extra" except moving the package on and off the aircraft.
And the cargo doesn't need any sort of bathroom, or a flight attendant, or even an undersized package of peanuts.
I think Delta is just making other carries look good.
