RIP, Roger -- Fantastic work over the years!
Rest in peace, Mr. Ebert. I've been a fan since your PBS days with Gene Siskel. Two thumbs up!
His TV Show and movie reviews were entertaining and quite funny at times. I really enjoyed watching him and Siskel on TV. God speed Roger!
He will truely be missed in the world of film.
Thumbs up to you sir, thumbs down that you are no longer with us.
Can't help but notice the thumb up and thumb down on this forum!
RIP, Mr. Ebert. I was a longtime fan of Siskel and Ebert since the 70s, watching weekly with my parents. While a thumbs down didn't always discourage me from seeing a movie, a thumbs up would bring attention to one I had overlooked. I disagreed with Ebert's position in recent years that video games were not art (I didn't feel he was informed or experienced enough to weigh in), though I give him credit for participating in, and bringing attention to the discussion, which still continues.
So sad to hear this news. Roger was a great critic in print, on TV, and a pioneer in the social media space. he also taught us all a lot of lessons on treating sick people with dignity, and having grace no matter the grave prognosis. Rest in peace, Roger.
Hollywood owes him and Gene a ton as they took the time to dissect their movies...maybe 3-4 a week...I think Hollywood cranks that many out in a day now, then off to dvd, pay tv. whatever...Couldn't wait for Sat at 6:30 to watch their show.
He was my #1 place to go to read about any movie.
