Once again the right rallies and acts based on false beliefs. The administration has expressed its position on the State Dept website. It includes:
The Second Amendment to the Constitution must be upheld. There will be no restrictions on civilian possession or trade of firearms otherwise permitted by law or protected by the U.S. Constitution. There will be no dilution or diminishing of sovereign control over issues involving the private acquisition, ownership, or possession of firearms, which must remain matters of domestic law.
The U.S. will oppose provisions inconsistent with existing U.S. law or that would unduly interfere with our ability to import, export, or transfer arms in support of our national security and foreign policy interests.
The international arms trade is a legitimate commercial activity, and otherwise lawful commercial trade in arms must not be unduly hindered.
There will be no requirement for reporting on or marking and tracing of ammunition or explosives.
There will be no mandate for an international body to enforce an ATT.
The GOP, Syria, North Korea and the NRA all want to stop this treaty. Fine company for Republicans and the NRA to keep!
The NRA opposes this treaty because it will negatively affect the bottom line of their corporate masters.
The administration also claims that the new gun control policies they want don't infringe on the second amendment. They either don't understand the English language or think we aren't smart enough to understand it.
The USA deserves all the misery we suffer as long as we continue to elect these people. We are a nation of hypocrites who claim to be a force for peace and justice, but look who our bedfellows are. The worst regimes on the planet. Yet we feel victimized when others hate us. What goes around comes around.
"We are a nation of hypocrites who claim to be a force for peace and justice, but look who our bedfellows are." ---------------------- Exactly. We are a nation founded on principles of "liberty and freedom" yet we incarcerate -- by an astounding amount -- more citizens per capita than any other civilized nation in the world. This country produces more drug addicts, criminals, and fanatics than any other in the world. So when Mitt Romney, the GOP/Tea party talk about "exceptionalism" -- it strains credibility to suggest that they are speaking about this country.
Look, how can we expect to dominate the rest of the world if we don't continue to destabilize certain economically important regions by providing the weapons of destabilization. Our economy is more dependent now on taking the fruits of the labor of foreign workers. We've pretty much maxed out our utilization of American workers labor. Add to that, that our educational system has changed to a conformity system and left us with a general populace incapable of higher level thinking, and there is left no growth prospects domestically. So we need to continue to exploit foreign labor and resources.
Just like our domestic criminals and gang-bangers laugh themselves silly at our impotently-enforced gun laws, rogue states and international gun-runners are laughing themselves silly at this treaty and at the clown-car UN.
As usual, the left thinks the UN should be governing the USA. We know Obama isn't, but the last thing we need is the UN in charge.
Why does Obama believe the United Nations arms treaty should supercede the U.S. Constitution?
