Coon Rapids offers grants for home remodels

To entice families to stay, the city is offering up to $5,000 to homeowners undertaking a large-scale remodel costing $35,000 or more.

Would be nice if they offered help for people who do not want to do such a big job in the amount of $35,000.

It's refreshing to see an aging city actively revitalize itself. Seems to be more sustainable too, with less people moving further out. It also helps increase the property values. In my opinion this seems to be a good investment by the city.

Programs like these are needed in all first-ring/post-war suburbs that have smaller housing stock. St. Louis Park and Richfield have similar programs to entice current homeowners to stay in those communities rather than move further out and it's a win-win for both parties involved. People get to stay in their current homes and neighborhoods while increasing their property value and the overall attractiveness of the community.
