With Joe Mauer in the No. 2 hole, “that’s what you want,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “You put Mauer there, and it just flows.”

Parmelee's AB with the bases loaded was horrible. Swung wildly at balls 4 and 5...still haven't seen much from him in the bigs in spite of those big numbers at Rochester.

Well the fans have been stating for five years that Joe should be the number 2 hitter. It finally took Bruno to inform Gardy of this. The guy does not know how to make a line up. Why was Parmlee swinging with a 2-0 count, with the bases loaded, Twins down by a run, with a pitcher that has walked 37 batters in this last 52 innings. Just poor managing.

Wonder if parmalee will be with the twins yet this weekend?

Now Gardy says Joe belongs in the #2 hole????????? Took ya what Gardy?? 3/4 years later than every fan in MN to figure a punch and judy opposite field singles hitter shouldnt hit #3???? Parmelees ab's and Willinghams ab's yesterday were simply horrible. Worley started out rough but he sucked it up and fought hard...I liked his effort.

And even if you dont like Mauer in the #2 hole.who else we gonna put there??? SOMEONE has to get on base in front of Justin and Josh. Our other options are very weak at best.

With Joe Mauer in the No. 2 hole, “that’s what you want,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “You put Mauer there, and it just flows.” Really? Then why hasn't Joe been in the #2 hole previously? Did you magically wake up Ron and realize that Joe is not a #3 hitter this season or does not having a contract for next season make you realize that you actually need to put the best line up on the field?

alextheturk: Well the fans have been stating for five years that Joe should be the number 2 hitter. BALLFOUR: That explains his reluctance.

In theory this sounds like a good idea until you realize that you just created a rally killer with the bottom half of your lineup consisting of Doumit, Parlelee, Plouffe, Dozier, and Florimon. Top 4 guys can have a .750 on base percentage and it still doesn't mean it'll translate into runs.

Finally Gardy acknowledges Mauer is not a home run hitter. He will not be bunting a guy to third with 0 outs nor bunting for base hits or beat out grounders but will get on with walks or hits. Just a different method than generally used by a hitter in the number 2 spot.

Tigers vs Twins equals mismatch. Tigers payroll must be twice as large with all the veteran players they have including Hunter. Verlander vs Worley says it all talent wise.
