Twins opener: Earliest one outdoors also could be the chilliest

  • Article by: PHIL MILLER , Star Tribune

This season’s April 1 opener is the earliest, by almost a week, that the Twins have played an outdoor game in Minnesota, and only once before has Major League Baseball dared schedule a game here before April 8.

Solution #1: Schedule double headers.

Play the game as scheduled. If not, the Twins best be prepared for PR nightmare.

What morons in the legislature put up half a billion dollars of taxpayer money just to make the Pohlads richer and didn't think to enclose it?

So glad my first game isn't until April 13... hopefully it will be warmer by then! The Twins need to schedule ALL April home games to start no later than 3 p.m. My own experiences, sitting in the upper deck over the first three seasons of Target Field, is that I will never see an April home game that starts at 7 p.m. It just gets too cold too quickly.

Baseball was created to make the hot dogs and beer taste better and they do! This season opener I will take hot coffe over beer though. Bring on the game!

Note to backers of a roofed ballpark: see Antiseptic Miller Park. It resembles an erector set with roof closed OR opened. No thanks. It is a joke that MLB has the Twins opening at home on April 1. Period. Anyways, play two on Weds----low 50s and little wind.

In the 1970's and 1980's the Twins used to open the season on the West Coast. The weather in California is more conducive to baseball than Minnesota in April. The AL has 7 teams where weather is not an issue for opening day.If baseball insists on starting the season on April 1st; then they should open the season in the South and West not in the Northeast and Midwest.

Mother Natures revenge on Henn. Co. Commissioners and the Polads for ripping off the taxpayers!

The absolute best feature of Target Field is that it does NOT have a roof. I'll have my layers of Twins gear on tomorrow as I help hold the giant Stars and Stripes on the field before the game, and than settle in for some baseball. The best six months of the year starts tomorrow. Go Twins.
