Three cheers, sounds like a great plan! I live in Edina, and always like how they plan for the future.

Great idea... a grocery store with no parking. I bet people will buy a truckload... er, a bikeload of groceries there.

Hmmm. Usually when I go to the grocery store I have 6-8 bags of groceries when I check out. How exactly am I supposed to get that home if I can't park a car there?

Will there be a sidewalk along france rather than a retaining wall? Also although the plans show that the building "fronts" France and 70th and Hazeldon, the plans seem to just be blank walls... people will have to trudge through a giant surface lot to get to the entrance.

@geds83, don't worry, the City of Edina still has minimum parking requirements that ensure people who will walk or bike to this grocery store will indirectly subsidize the cost of your car storage, so you will still be able to park there for "free"

@kleindropper, if you're within walking or biking distance of a grocery store (one of the biggest livability factors) it's much easier to go more frequently. My wife and I frequently walk to a grocery store in the neighborhood... it is part of our walk routine, and we come home with a few bags of groceries. I never want to live outside walking distance from a grocery store again now that I've experienced it.

mattaudio:"I never want to live outside walking distance from a grocery store again now that I've experienced it."---Me either. That was one of my non-negotiable demands for moving back to Minneapolis, finding a place within walking distance of a grocery store and other conveniences.

About time. Southdale and the surrounding retail complexes were a virtual No Man's land, almost inaccessible for pedestrians.

I like to call it The Concrete Square---surrounded on 4 sides by France, Xerxes, 62 and 494. Biggest congested eyesore next to the traffic backups at 50th and France (irony in that eastbound 50th street can be backed up all the way to Edina City Hall). This idea is like throwing a patch of sod on the MOA parking lot.

This is nothing more than a desperate ploy to try and capture some customers in apartment buildings due to the nice Super Target right down the road sucking up all the customers.
