3M launches anti-theft films for car windows

A Scotchshield-covered car window still could be smashed, but the Security Film holding the glass in place significantly complicates a theft.

Great to lower so-called ''smash and grabs'', but what happens if you are in a bad crash and you need to get out of the vehicle quickly or rescue personnel needs to get to you quickly (think car is on fire)? Those ''minutes'' could make the difference between living and dying.

I think this is a really cool product, and I doubt that it would hinder rescue efforts by trained personnel. Rescue personnel might even prefer the lack of glass shrapnel that is created when they have to break windows. Trust me - they have no problem quickly removing the safety glass that is installed by the factory in virtually every car's front windshield.

Either the author or 3M's source needs to modify the section on keeping cold out. The film prevents heat loss. It does not keep the cold out. Cold is technically the absence of heat. So you cannot keep the cold out, you keep the heat in or prevent it from being lost to the outside.
