Twins' Willingham brought new power to team

Willingham, a humble slugger who still lives in his hometown of Florence, Ala., bashed 21 home runs over the left field and left-center walls in downtown Minneapolis last season.

The Hammer is fun to watch. The Twins should also sign Jim Thome to a one year deal, as he has been working out all winter and is currently unsigned. The two of them in the lineup would be exciting regardless of how the team is doing overall.

Thome would have to homer, because any single would require a pinchrunner because at age 55, I'm faster than he is and I'm almost glacial. The Twins would burn through their bench in short order. This isn't softball where you can pinch run the guy who made the last out.

3-4-5 in the Twins lineup has the potential to be the best in the game.

The Hammer is fun to watch. A true, bona fide slugger in the make of Harmon Killebrew. Morneau has said Willingham is the strongest player he's ever seen. I don't doubt that. I'd worried that losing both Span and Revere would really hurty our offense. But now that I've had a look at young Aaron Hicks, those worries are long gone. Guys are going to be on base for the Hammer. Mauer appears to be in excellent form. And he's simply one of the greatest hitters in all of baseball. But I think the biggest factor that will help Willingham is a healthy Justin Morneau hitting behind him. If Morneau can carry his great WBC and ST numbers into the regular season, opposing pitchers will feel as if they have to pitch to the Hammer. I'd like to see Gardy DH Willingham a little more this season to keep Josh fresh and healthy for the stretch run. Had Willingham not had some nagging injuries at the end, I have little doubt he would have hit 40 HRs. I hope he does that this year. Go Twins!!!

TR says - "The ballpark was not the problem". Good point. What is the problem? Most signs point to the Twins approach of gap to gap, go the other way hitting philosophy. The Twins were built throughout the 90s and 00s to play in the dome where weak ground balls could shoot through gaps and make it to the fence. Now on grass, that approach won't work. Hopefully, Bruno can correct the old approach. We need More Power!

"Thome would have to homer, because any single would require a pinchrunner"...That is untrue!...Thome can ("run"/(jog?..whatever) for himself and stay in the game anytime the manager wants him to....If Willingham homers, walks or hits a ground rule double, Thome only has to walk and make the correct number of left turns....If Thome is the tying/winning run after the 8th inning, just pinch-run which-ever starting pitcher was lit-up yesterday, and call it "between-game-conditioning"....The pitcher run L's in the OF anyway...this would be shorter.
