Twins could trade Willingham, Morneau if team sputters early

The best-case scenario for the Twins is that General Manager Terry Ryan will be a buyer at the trade deadline and not a seller.

Iwatched MLB Network when they discussed the Twins. Not surprisingly, every analyst picked the Twins to finish last in the Central. They predicted a 64-98 record, 26 games behind the Tigers. Pretty cruel East-Coast-Bias, if you ask me. I'll admit I'm not so keen on our starting pitching, but after two terrible seasons, its hard to imagine things getting worse. I'm going to predict the Twins finishing close to the .500 mark. The Twins will play well enough to return some sense of optimism to Twins fans.

Yes, there has to be some... just a little (please, please, pretty please with sugar on top) to the mean. At least that's what I learned in my college statistics class. Keeping the fingers crossed. Go Twins!

bumswrapMar. 31, 1311:29 AM

Reversion to the mean that is.

Its silly to even suggest trading Willingham the only Twin with consistent pop in his bat. Who could you get that's better? No one.

if? if? If the team sputters. R U nuts...They are dead on arrival . Custer had a better chance than these dumpster guys. I predict Pohlad will be whining about attendance and threatning to move the team in a couple years after he's sucked the blood out of the fans. That's what this type of people do!

Why did Target Field get built again? I recall reading somewhere that the stadium would help bolster the roster, yet instead we're cutting payroll and threatening to gut the lineup if we don't win.

Plouffe/Parmelee and their ability to hit for average and power will be more critical to when/if Willingham/Morneau are traded. Doumit/Mauer also will impact that decision as Willingham could be a major force as DH for many years - but if Mauer stays healthy and both Mauer and Doumit hit for average with some power they need to stay in the lineup. When we make decisions on pitching we need to trade pitchers (to many with nearly equal ability in both major and minor squads) Middle infield has to play well enough to not hurt the team either on D or with an automatic out or we will have to trade a major player to upgrade there. A. Hicks play also is critical - Giving up Span and Revere He has to play well every day.

Really, looking at the way Terry Ryan has cut $37M from our payroll (for no apparent reason) while totally neglecting the starting rotation for two off-seasons now--and the fact he's never won much of anything--it's amazing this guy's still the GM; it's amazing the trust and loyalty the Pohlad family has placed in a guy that is nothing close to what Andy McPhail was when here. Why, I ask WHY, does this guy get so much credit? He's a bum that for a micro-era got lucky because while his team was playing in baseball's weakest division, he was given enough money to keep the top draft picks he accumulated from sucking so badly for so many years. Big deal. You and I could've built a winner back then. Terry Ryan's ENTIRE bio includes NINE losing seasons of the 15 he's been GM, SIX first round busts, and FIVE 90-plus loss seasons. You can't talk about Terry Ryan the star unless you mention Terry Ryan the utter failure, too. This team's starting rotation is a mess for ONE reason: Terry Ryan. Simple as that.

The Twins will most likely sputter, but who would we trade them for? Some guys we've never heard of that other teams don't want. May as well keep two of the best players we've ever had. That's right, TWO OF THE BEST PLAYERS WE'VE EVER HAD. If you don't believe me, look up Twins statistics.

Hey Terry Ryan your team is a mess!! I say your team because that's what it amounts to.You know all to well we need some kind decent pitching, and still you go to the MLB heap pile,to see what you can scrounge up for nothing. We the fans aren't going see your team much this year, because its a joke.
