It's time to run Medicare/Medicaid like an insurrance company. It is a political hand grenade to suggest that, but you have to do something - fraud and waste is out of control.
@gjacob... please document your claims regarding medicare/medicaid fraud and waste. Thank you.
Hey JP55901: The Scooter Store has been sued by the Federal Government to return some $25Million in fraudulent claims for scooters. It is the tip of the iceburg but that should be sufficient documentation so that naysays of fraud will at least shut up long enough to bring in a few auditors teams.
The next time you see a 30-50year old Big Mamma too fat to walk but shopping for groceries on a scooter just ask yourself how much that "complete package" is costing US Taxpayers.
JP55901; "60 Minutes" did a story on medicare fraud a while back. If I remember, they said that there is about $60 or $90 BILLION a year in fraud and many think that is a conservative number. They looked at tiny pharmacies that were billing more than the national chains. The story is still on their website.
What about the ads currently running on tv for a back brace which at no time during the commercial do they ever show the product? Could be an overpriced ace bandage for all we know. Yet I bet millions are ordering it with the promises that someone else will pick up the tab.
Best move would be to ditch the direct-to-consumer advertising.
advertisements are brainwashing? No it can't be!
In a just world, the CEOs of these companies would go to jail for this. But this is the US, where politicians are owned by the health care "industry". Instead, they may just wind up getting elected governor of a state, like fellow Medicare fraudster Rick Scott.
Government inspectors say up to 80 percent of the scooters and power wheelchairs Medicare buys go to people who don't meet the requirements - - - SOOOOO doesn't that mean government isn't doing THEIR job???? Are they verifying what the doctor puts down on the application??? Anybody can ask as long as they don't lie. Government is free to say 'guidelines not met'.
