Did he really turn down two schools are was it just a ploy to get the new contract with the stupid buy out amount added. Nice work tubby.

Let's see Sid, "Minnesota was the toughest place to coach" and yet he turned down two schools---please name them? He didn't 'leave' Kentucy he was FIRED!

Nice article Sid, written exactly as Tubby told you to. It was time for Tubby to go, Jerry Kill will be joining him shortly, I hope.

Coach Smith is one class act. He is always taking the high road. Speaking as a fan of the Gophers and a fan of coach Smith, I am disappointed in the firing. I mean I can see if we weren't winning games. But we were winning. In the Big Ten sure we did not win many games there but look at the loses. Some were blow outs and some were down to the wire loses. But we were always right in the middle of the pack a one game from being in third place or something. We were always tied with other teams right in the middle of the pack. But coach Smith will land another job some where. Good luck, coach and you will be missed.

He had lost his team. There was no improvement. Yes, he won 20 games, but with cupcake scheduling that's no big deal. He should have won 25 to 30.

Come on Sid.....give your readers some respect. Tubby's record was terrible. I like how you only mention his "overall record", failing to point out that well over half of his total wins were over cupcake division 2 schools. The only record that matters is his Big 10 record...but naturally, you don't mention that.

If by "winning", Tubby meant cleaning up on weak non-conference teams at home and then drowning in the Big Ten season, then yes, he won. But why, Sid, should Gopher fans content themselves with being an average to poor Big Ten team? And why do you support that? There's no guarantee the new coach will improve the program, but I don't see a downside in trying. We can't get much worse than three consecutive 9th place finishes.

yeah you were pretty disappointed to sid werent ya?

lindy_frank123Mar. 27, 1310:51 PM

I'm glad there was a road out to take for Tubby. Sid you're disappointed cuz you lost a contact.

ActTwoMar. 27, 1310:53 PM

I'm sure it was just an oversight Sid but you forgot to mention Tubby's 46-62 Big Ten record, his 9th place finish this year or the fact he finished behind Wisconsin each of his 6 seasons.
