Where in the rule book does it say that you must have a middle infielder hitting second? Or for that matter a centerfielder hitting first. Even though Joe is slow, he would be a natural #2 to keep the leadoff hitter moving. I can't wait for Gardy's book on coaching philosophy to come out after he retires.

"Where in the rule book does it say that you must have a middle infielder hitting second?"..The same section that says if you don't have Ben Revere on the team, and Willingham, Parmelee, Doumit, Morneau and Plouffe can't fill the two-hole properly, your choices are limited.

Good luck to him, this team needs all the solidarity it can get, instead of question marks..........

The Twins whole infield is at flux...Justin is in his last year and will not be back...trade bait, Dozier was sent to the minors and did not perform last year, but looks good in spring training, Floriman, first year, we will see and Plouffe can hit for power, but not average and is a liability defensively...So what are we supposed to get excited about? Oh, the starting pitching? yea that's it, the starting pitching....What a joke, on the fast track to 90 losses...

NORCALTWIN says,"..Even though Joe is slow, he would be a natural #2 to keep the leadoff hitter moving.---Joe isn't slow. Very fast for a catcher and no worse than average speed overall. He easily has the speed to play in the outfield if needed and would be above average out there.

I've always like Dozier, if only for the trivial reason that he knows how to wear baseball pants and socks. But the picture atop this column shows him in the more-trendy "pajama pants" configuration. Too bad.
