The team needs to prove that its victory over UCLA was more than just a one-game blip, and today’s game vs. Florida presents that chance.

unfortunately, they now play a team this is better than two-deep on their bench, will be very unforgiving of the gopher's erratic play, and who's defensive intensity will eat them up. florida will be up by 20 at the half, then take their foot off the gas. FL by 14.

When the players can't figure out why they are so up and down look no further then the man holding the clipboard. Enjoy todays game because if Smith is allowed to stay on its gonna be a long time before you see the U in the NCAA tournament again. Howland got fired immediately after losing, yet here is a man who was in 3 final fours in a row won their conference this year along with years past and he gets fired. We have a coach after 6 years who hasn't gotten us higher then 6th place and just won his first tourney game. The way this state embraces failure and mediocrity is sickening.

There is two ways for a college to win the NCAA's. One is to get great players who will only play for you for one or two years. But because you are able to attract the best players you can always have replacements for them as they leave. The other way is to get good players and TEACH them over 4 years how to play and because he has all his guys play for one coach over 4 years, they are good. Tubby does not fit into either one of these. When Tubby gets good players, they transfer after a year or two. Plus I don't think Tubby is very good at teaching his players. So they tend to play so-so ball. And another thing that drives me CRAZY about the Gophers BB team is NONE OF THEM can hit a free throw. I always thought a great team will win games from the "Charity Strip". I doubt the Gophers hit 50% of their free throws. Bobby Knight used to have ALL HIS PLAYERS shoot 100 free throws AFTER EACH PRACTICE. That way they are used to hitting them when they are tired. Tubby's teams have always STUNK at hitting free throws. I bet the team loses 5 games a year because they can't get "free" throws. I think they should have at least 10 more points a game if they just hit 75% of them. That would make them a MUCH HIGHER SEED in the BIG 10 as well as the NCAA's. We need a new coach that can TEACH his players and KEEP his players, so that after 4 years, his kids KNOW HOW TO WIN and make Free throws.

I read John Wooden's book about 30 years ago and I recall him saying over 70% of games are decided by free throws. I believe it. How can players of teams in the tournament clank free throws off the rim or miss the darn thing altogether?? Obviously a lot of coaches don't work on free throw shooting: Tubby's six years have stunk in that category. I agree that he doesn't seem to teach the players because they never get better. They have enough individual talent to put it all together some games, but it doesn't last. Knight may be obnoxius but rarely did you see players repeat the same mistakes over and over or they weren't going to play for him. Florida should provide a huge test for the Gophers and they'd better be wearing their big boy pants or they'll get embarrassed on national tv. Go Gophers.

Everything will have to go right for the Gophers to win today. And just think, if they do win, they play either Florida Gulf Coast or San Diego State in the Sweet Sixteen. They could make the Elite 8 if they get by today.
