We've known for decades about the coming energy crunch, and did nothing. Actually, we did worse than nothing, and increased our extravagant and wasteful ways. Even though there was little in the way of preaching and education, it wouldn't have done much anyway.

Why do almost all cops need big cars, and why must they idle almost all the time? First, A lot of city police and small town police have no need to drive a hundred miles an hour. The idling is another issue that has little basis in fact. Cops will say the lights and other electronics will wear down the battery if they turn the car off. If that was really true, give them bigger batteries.

Kudo to the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County and others looking for alternatives to petroleum-based fuels. For more information on where you can buy E85 or bidiesel in Minnesota, and which vehicles can use cleaner-burning fuels, see this American Lung Association website: www.CleanAirChoice.org

17 people didn't like my earlier comments. I bet 16 of the 17 were cops which tells me how difficult it will be to change their bad habits

There is no energy crunch there is only bad policy! Bush offered one the only smart solutions to this problem recently. Start drilling in the U.S. but he was shot down by the Dem fools who are afraid to stand up to the environmentalists. Look what our dependence on foreign oil is doing to our entire economy. We shuld driil for oil in our own country and build more refineries while continuing to explore new energy options.

Do you also propose that domestic oil be regulated?

Hourcar is a local nonprofit. It's housed under the auspices of the St. Paul NEC. A few local "environmentalists" cared enough years ago to work for free for years to get the program off the ground. It offers a way for families to reduce their car ownership and associated costs if they or one parent can take public transit to and from work. It offers a really good service and I'm thrilled to see that the City of Mpls. is using it as an option in the mix of solutions we all need to look for with high gas prices. Even if the author can't seem to tell the difference between a nonprofit available to serve the community and a for profit company. But oh well, good is still being done in the community.

Domestic oil production increases, new refineries, drilling the continental shelf have all been turned down by democrats in congress. Who is in the White House has nothing to do with this. The facts are documented, research the votes on bills that try to do any oil drilling or add refineries and it splits along party lines.
