Move Minnesota primary election to June?

My quick scan of the latest Minnesota Chamber of Commerce legislative priority list detected one item that bore a closer look. There amid the usual calls for no new taxes, regulatory relief and unspecified spending reform was an item I don’t remember seeing in previous years — election reform.

So the Chamber of Commerce, which worked to elect the very Republicans who oppose this, wants this now. Rich.

Yes, we need earlier primaries - especially with the state legislature. Let's have the election process begin while people still remember the previous legislative session - to be able to to better hold their legislators accountable.

No, there should not be a longer campaign season! If anything it should be shorter. Politicians no longer see office as public service but as a lucrative profession. They get elected then entrench themselves with campaign cash in office for life, voting themselves nice pay raises every year, top of the line health care for life (even after they leave office), lots of vacation time, "fact-finding" trips around the world (in which they take their families). The nonstop campaign TV ads are a waste and annoyance that do nothing to inform the voter. The primary should stay in August, with no advertising allowed until July.
