Borton hopes WNIT run will help propel Gophers to NCAA berth next year

If progress is measured in incremental steps for the Gophers women’s basketball team, next year should bring about the program’s first NCAA tournament berth since 2009.

OSU fires a great coach is Jim Foster and Minnesota extends Borton. What a pathetic joke. Next year, next year, blah, blah, blah. Borton has done nothing but bring the Minnesota program down to complete mediocracy at best. She doesn't deserve to be around to coach next year's team. Gophers have already wasted half the career of a special player in Banham. No reason to celebrate NIT. Besides, didn't Borton say Gophers were a sweet16 team with Banham and Hirt? Sure wish Minnesota would have the guts to fire Borton like OSU did with Foster.

Why is it that almost every u of m coach is labeled by some fans as deserving to be fired almost every year? Perhaps fans should be a little more reasonable about what to expect? We are not in the best position to draw recruits for almost any sport but hockey. If we are making progress (and I happen to think we are), how about offering some support to our athletes. The lady bb gophers have been particularly successful lately with respect to academics and community involvement. They did play better this year than last and look to be better next year again. There is no magic bullet/coach that will automatically put us back in the final four. We were lucky to get Whalen and McCarville for two big games in a row for one year. It takes players, not a new coach. It also takes some patience and support from loyal fans. Better times are coming.

What the...? Didn't I call this one a couple of weeks ago? Women Gophers would get into the WNIT and then try to spin it as a positive by stating that playing any post-season games can only help for the next season? How predictable. - p.s. It only helps if a team actually plays QUALITY competition - Ball State's overall record was a not-so-impressive 15-15, with a current RPI of 180.

Please don't let the Borton train wreck continue into next season. Choo, choo...
