His star is fading at the U — and in a Big Ten rich in coaching talent.

I can only hope for a clean sweep of coaches. Mr. Teague, please have the courage to replace both Tubby Smith and Pam Borton. Of course, at least Tubby has the boys in the NCAAs. Women's program going nowhere fast under Borton.

Teague got fooled once by Kill - the $800,000 North Carolina give-away. With Gopher basketball becoming less relevant every season under Tubby, let's hope he doesn't hoodwinked by the struggling coach.

And yet Sid Pat his singing Tubby's praises. Go figure? He's out of touch/Tubby and Sid....this program has plummetted when is compared to Northwestern, Nebraska and Penn State. Plummetted... wow...thank you Clem....

I've said it a number of times, the worst coach in the Big Ten and probably much worse. There simply is no comparison.

I'm amazed that Patrick used one of ESPN's pet names and referred to Michigan State as Sparty.

Our new norwood, the "contract extension/contract buyout..." specialist brought in by our somewhat new prexy k to "carry on..." the traditions for dealing with revenue generating sports programs at the U of M will existentially impact the future of Men's Basketball in perhaps the near-term future. Wish our new norwood much wisdom...much good fortune and much willingness to accept responsibility for his every action...or...inaction in the coming days...weeks...months and possibly even years. But please, norwood, never rush to extend until you are certain about your commitment to the future of a revenue sport coach. After all, the coach does NOT have the power that you have in this process once it has reached a critical point. It is far better to extend and fully support a coach than it is to extend and then buy out a coach. To extend and then buy out is just too messy...too sloppy...and too unprofessional. That is the kind of situation a person might expect at a "not ready for prime time" conference. But MAYBE your answer will be clear as a bell by the end of the next week. But, the next time you get ready to extend, maybe it would be a good idea to "sleep on it..." before you pull the trigger... ; 0 )

Any way you look at it, Tubby has under performed this year. Unfortuntately that is a trend rather than an exception. I am not aware of anyone that feels the program will progress and succeed with him as the coach. The only decision is when to feel the pain - take a hit now and move on or continue to pour good money into a lost cause. My preference is to move on now. As a suggestion - how about Steve Alfort at New Mexico. A B10g guy, proven young coach and one that has all upside potential.

Nice again Patrick. Just another angle on why Tubby needs to be replaced.Tubby. Coaching is tough but recruiting is tougher. He's underperformed in both areas.

Great article, great coaches..however,the tourney will bear out the fact that the Big10 has been greatly over-rated this year..GO GATORS!!

Note to alexjack; Steve alford was 'run out' of Iowa, took the New Mexico job just ahead of being fired, his years at Iowa were a disaster. FYI he just{yesterday} signed a 10 year extention at New Mexico. In all his years at Iowa never came close to winning the Big 10 and made the big dance one time by winning the Big 10 tourney.
