It's not that they aren't saying runners cannot lower their heads AT ALL. The rule makes it illegal for a runner to initiate contact in the open field with the crown of his helmet (just like defenders cannot "spear"). Watch Jim Brown on film, he hit with his shoulders, and maybe that's why he's still lucid enough to be in full support of this rule.

This new rule was institued for one reason and one reason only, and that was to slow down Adrian Peterson so he doesn't break any more of the NFL's sacred records. Just one more instance in a long line of evidence of the NFL's conspiracy against the Minnesota Vikings and their players! Besides, Frazier should have kept Adrian in the Packer game and let him break the record instead of cheating the fans out of witnessing history being made so he could win a game and play a worthless playoff game just so he could save his job.

Goodell is ruining this league with all of his safety rules. Running backs are taught to lower their pads, obviously your head will lower too. Someday linemen will have to lineup in an upright position too. All kinds of changes are coming down the road. It's FOOTBALL for crying out loud!!! Goodell should wear a skirt.

Simple question, if Roger Goodell is ruining football, how come the NFL is bigger than ever? Until fans start turning off the TVs and stop spending their money, it's hard to say he's doing anything wrong. For all of the "flag football" and "skirt" talk I hear, I hear of very few people who actually quit watching. Myself, hearing all of the talk about stupid fantasy football makes me dislike the game more than the rule changes ever could. Can Goodell ban that?

This is the beginning of the end of the sport of football. They are making "smash-mouth" football against the rules of football! I won't watch.

This says more about the state of tort law than it says about Goodell. I don't like Goodell but I'm sure he's under tremendous pressure from the owners. The owners are scared of these inevitable huge lawsuits that are going to come at them from every angle once the president is set on this Seau deal. Scary stuff for rich men.
