You can't make this stuff up! Go down to Surdyk's, buy a few kegs and some cups. Unit cost 30 cents, sells for 8 bucks. How can you NOT make money? And Dayton wants to give the U 90 mm as an "investment"? The u is the most inept institution from a financial perspective that I have ever heard of. Where does it end?

It really isn't that difficult to negotiate a contract with the vendor so that they take on a larger part of the costs. Also I would think that there are numerous other vendors who would be happy to sell beer at the stadium for a smaller percentage take. I assume it is a multiple year contract so we can lose money next year as well.

Only a state run institution could lose money selling a beer! These are the people teaching our kids how to run a business. God help us all!

They lost money? No wonder, with the excessive amounts paid for "security", and other expenses no sane private business would even consider. The fear that some college freshmen might get a glass of 3.2 beer, how foolish.

There are more security officers at the stadium than any other sports facility I've ever seen. And people wonder why students don't show up.

You think this is something? Just wait until you hear how much the health exchange is costing us after one year and the State taking 3% off the top. Didn't we just hear that gambling revenues are not what they expected? Long live the State.

I'm not surprised as this is just another example of ineptitude at the university. As they are a state funded school we should demand that they give us the details. How many beers sold, Aramark's share, the university's share, how many extra officers were hired, etc. We could run the numbers making some estimates but I'd rather see numbers that could be audited.

Only the U could lose money selling beer. I certainly hope that all U of M business majors are taking note of what not to do (and maybe thinking of transferring out).

Selling beer was among the businesses that Al Capone ran because it was impossible to lose money selling it to a captive audience. Until now.

I'm guessing they overspent on infrastructure as to avoid the debacle that was merely getting into the stadium in year one at TCF Bank stadium. They probably aimed their expenses at $1M in sales revenue, that came up short, so a little money was lost. It's pretty tough to budget beer sales at college football games when HARDLY ANYONE DOES IT
