Maybe she should have taken the $3,500 deal they offered her? I doubt she realizes that yet.

Unbelievable! I understand pirating is illegal but this penalty seems really excessive.

What a waste of time and resources! This has been going on for years. The only individuals that "win" are the lawyers. Their paid by the hour whether it's a win, lose or draw. As noted prior, she should've taken the deal!

Hindsight? Yeah, obviously she should have taken the $3500 deal. I know I would have been so freaked-out to begin with that I would have paid that right off!

Clarification: She didn't "loose" her appeal -- the Supreme Court just opted not to take up the issue.

This whole thing was a huge waste of time and resources. This person will never pay $222,000. I'd be surprised if she paid $222. She has no money. So what are we going to do? Throw her in jail, pay for her room and board in jail, plus pay someone to care for her kids? Forgive the whole debt, and let her go free w/o any punishment? We wasted years and tens of thousands of tax dollars, and in the end she's going to walk. What a waste.

It would have been nice for the Supreme court to have taken on the case and reset the fine at a rational number. What she did was wrong -but did it do that amount of damage? I don't think so.

So until the supreme court chooses to take up her case, perhaps she should write herself an amnesty, or require that the federal government provide her a bailout until the court finds time to deal with her issue. This is an excessive, unreasonable taking being attempted. And we don't seem to live in a society with laws anymore so why shouldn't she expect what any other individual (corporation) either foreign or domestic seems destined to receive sooner of later under corporate rule?

This doesn't exactly make me want to go out and buy music from the industry weasels who are clobbering ordinary citizens this way.
