Chip, no matter the wins in the tourney, Smith should be replaced. What happens from this point forward is a credit to the players, not the coach. As a leader, Smith has a) thrown players under the bus; b) acted like an observer instead of a participant; c) conducted incomprehensible interviews with the public. He is the highest paid public servant in the state, and he has failed ten times over. Enjoy the tourney, and then get to work on a replacement, immediately.

So ballpark, how much money would have Trevor had to pay back had they not been selected?

jackpinesavMar. 18, 13 9:25 AM

Reality is Minnesota is not prepared to put up the $$$ bucks to pay off Smith, raise $$$$ for new arena and practice facility to draw quality players (reality of new college ball) and pay a quality coach to come here. End of story. M club could lead effort...but won't!!

The U is still making payments on the loans taken out to buy-out coaches of the past- what's another 2.5 mil added- another 4-5 years of payments that sure could be put to better use.

At last get rid of Borton! Tubby is the best thing to happen to her. I wonder how much she pays him to keep the heat off of her lousy program?

lindy_frank123Mar. 18, 1310:33 AM

You have a womens hockey team undefeated and a mens' hockey team one of the top two in the country and you guys write about this travesty of a team? Go figure....guess who goes farther in their tournament? It won't be Tubby....that's better than any Christmas gift he's gotten. 100 grand just like that through it around. Performance? What performance?

oldmannickelMar. 18, 1312:59 PM

I would take $100,000 a year just to draw up inbounds plays for Tubby. That alone would probably give us another win or two per year.

The problem lies in the extension of the contract. Extensions of contracts followed by buyouts seems to be a real pattern within the athletic department at the University of Minnesota. A REAL problem... The pattern goes back to the former president...the retired athletic director still on the payroll...the current president and his new athletic director. The coach did NOT extend himself. Just which one of the administrators are responsible for this contract extension? Will this pattern EVER end. We just learned that the old ad, on his way out the door extended the very much struggling Women's Hoops Coach. What is going on with the administrators over at the U? ; 0 )

Yeah, lets get rid of Tubby and put in a Jerry Kill equivalent -in typical Minnesota style!
