Just over a year ago, Joe Laha’s car quit and he had a decision to make: Either buy a new one or go vehicle-free. He chose the latter.

This is great news! This is THE bridge that divides our current car-dependent urban city to one that you can truly easily live car-free in (or at least one car less per family)! This is a very positive development towards a more sustainable Minneapolis!

What surprises me is that this has taken so long. I know even in NYC many people owned a car for grocery shopping and for special events. Cabs aren't always practical, and can quickly become extremely expensive. Think if you lived in Uptown and were invited to a dinner party in White Bear Lake. Cab fare would be $100 round trip if you're lucky enough to get a cab in WBL to take you back.

supervon2, I do believe the story mentions the fact that Joe Laha, one of the users of this service actually DOES work for a living.
