This is a perfect example of why our society is deterioating like it is. They might only be 16 and 17 years old but they are adults in my book and one year is not even a slap on the wrist. All the money in the world spent on social programs will not have the same effect as harsher sentences for those that committ crimes.
kenw1952w...I agree to a point, crimes such as these. There are nonviolent offenders who hurt no one but themselves that are serving more time than this or what about the guy sentenced to fifty years for sharing music....Those people can be directed but something like this derserves more than a year. Also, the kids that did nothing, they deserve to be punished too. I would pray to God that if that were my daughter that someone would help her instead of video tape thinking this is some form of entertainment and if they didnt I would be pushing for just as harsh punishment for them. Even better lets stop desensitizing our kids, letting them watch movies with rape scenes and violence, then maybe they wouldnt see it as being okay. Lets keep a better eye and know where they are at, I know we cant keep them on a leash but it has gotten worse and worse.
At least a year in jail? While the victim will live a life of horror. These young animals should be publicly castrated and then executed.
27 football coaches? We have 3. And those darn cellphones broadcasting pictures everywhere are trouble- again.
At a minimum they should spend the time in gen pop federal prison with other rapists. Perhaps this would give them the opportunity to experience the full reality of their crime.
Our justice system is so messed up, and this case is sadly only another example that goes mostly overlooked, despite what little media attention there has been over this horrific case.
Parents need to grow/wake up. This is as much on the parents of ALL of these kids as much as the kids themselves. Parents need to immediately stop being their kids best buddies and be parents.
"Parents need to immediately stop being their kids best buddies and be parents.".................The parents are part of the problem because, like hockey in Minnesota, the little dears are 'just being boys', and are entitled to their little peccadilloes from time to time, while the parents glance the other way.
I'm sure there is still some football team somewhere in college-land that will pick these boys up. The sports hero can do no wrong mentality strikes again.
Reality television which worships the likes of Charlie Sheen, Lindsey Lohen and Kim Kardasian and we wonder why these things happen!
These young men were predatory. That is found in every culture in every time period. It may make people feel better to blame the parents, booze or social media but that doesn't address the sadistic depersonalization found in their behavior. So why don't we all thank God that they were caught and branded before they married, got jobs and continued to be predators behind the facade of all American athletes?
