Russo's NHL Insider: If Ducks can't sign Perry, they should trade him

Ducks forward Corey Perry, the NHL’s MVP two seasons ago, is unsigned for next season and the trade deadline is April 3. Maybe it’s time for Anaheim to deal him?

They won't trade him. If you think you will make the playoffs, it is hard to be a seller, even if that makes sense long term. Will the Wid trade Cullen (who is playing great and might not be back next year)??....I think not.

Frankly I'd love it if the Ducks dealt Perry but I don't think they will or should. That team is a rock solid Cup contender and to even take the chance of messing with that because Perry might walk during the summmer makes no sense because for that team, the future is right now.

Any team that would trade for Perry without a signature on a longer term contract would be in no better of a position than the Ducks. It would be a playoff team looking for a boost. And right now no team is a better position to make a run than the Ducks. Unless it's a trade-and-sign deal, another team would probably not be willing to give up the return Perry would need to draw.

Trade Mikko, Heater, Granlund, and one minor league goalie for Perry. The Wild won't be sorry!
