U fiction writer Kate Petersen receives coveted Stegner Fellowship

University of Minnesota MFA candidate Kate Petersen has received a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in fiction. Petersen, who is from Phoenix, is in her final year of the three-year MFA program. The two-year Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University is one of the nation’s most prestigious creative writing fellowships, with about 1,700 applicants last year. Ten fellowships are awarded each year, five in fiction and five in poetry.
