Matt Cassel calls this the perfect fit, knowing full well that Christian Ponder is the undisputed starter.

Cassel is comfortable being a backup, until Ponderosa starts throwing turf darts 10 yards out week 2! Then, Cassel's comfort level will change.

Confounding how the organization can put all their eggs in Ponder's basket... 31st rated passer out of 32 teams?? Ponder actually threw for 58, 63, 91, 111, 119, 131 and 159 yards. He faced single man coverage while 8 & 9 were in the box to stop #28. This will be his 3rd year and I hope he does well but if he doesn't, cut the bait plz!

It would be nice to know a little more about the turnovers. Apparently 12 Int's and 7 fumbles lost last year by Cassel in 9 games. Did his offensive line let him down? Did he just have Dwayne Bowe to throw to? Cassel does have two pretty good seasons by history so he could be a good pick-up.

Starter or not, Cassel probably helped swing the tide for Jennings to sign here, Unbelievably. I still would have preferred Sam Cassell.

'Cassel said he had other offers, but knew he needed just the one visit.' It's obvious to everyone but our coach & GM that this offers the best opportunity to become a starter. His competition is an unproven 3rd year QB with limited arm strength who is not durable. What Cassel and every NFL competent brain trust realizes (except Frasier and Spielman) is that NFL QBs make a quantum development leap between their first and second year not between their second and third years. Ponder is what he is - below average.

Enough with the rhetoric, Cassel signed instantly with the Vikings because it gives him the best chance to start… we all know that Cassel is here to compete for the starting job… and, based on what I have seen from Ponder, the job will be Cassel’s by week 3…

Great signing. Puts the Vikings in a much better situation as a team trying to get deeper and stronger. This is how an NFL team has to have its roster now - as he stated, one play and you are in.

This was a great signing by the Vikes—Ponder will have to play well, but he knows that and he is a hard worker. Ponder will benefit from Cassell's experience and the team can relax if Ponder does have a minor injuy like at the playuoff game. But Ponder should NOT be in a hot seat to start given how he played in the last four games last season. By the way, Eli Manning made his big jump in year 3.

It's so sad when you see coaches commit to such crappy quarterbacks. Before too long they're fired!

I don't get it. What are you going to do when you get in there, play like a starter or like a back up? If you don't come in here trying to be the starter stay home. PLEASE!
