Larger increase would fund additional rapid-bus routes and accelerate build-out of light-rail lines.

So rich downtown hipsters are forcing poor suburban grandmothers to pay for their ride? How insensitive and selfish!

"Unlike the current transit tax, the additional transit tax would become effective without approval of metro area county boards if passed by the Legislature."----Absolutely not. No vote, no money. Send this one back, along with Dayton's other wacky tax proposals.

The "suburban grandmothers" will eventually be unable to drive and will need transit.

hermajesty- and light rail will not get Gramma to the doctor OR the grocery store. That will require one of those evil 4-wheeled things we call a car. Raise the @#$%^*&(_+_)(&%$# fares to pay for the ride!!!! Bill G.

Instead of forcing people who NEVER use public transportation (due to lack of flexibility, destinations, etc.) to pay for this, why not make the people who use public transportation pay for it? Oh, I forgot: The Democratic Party policy is "somebody else pays for what you get". Whether it is public transportation, birth control pills, or whatever, Democrats will give free stuff and make someone else pay for it. People were not actually gullible enough to believe that boosting wasteful "infrastructure" and welfare spending would result in overall lower taxes, were they? I guess some were.

Why do Democrats always think "nonusers" should pay for everything? People that USE the light rail should pay for it. Whats next? Tell people in Ely or Albert Lea that were raising your taxes so people in the Metro can ride in the 'failed experiment" we call Light Rail

And people don't believe it when we say all democrats do is 'tax and spend'. Yeah, let's build even MORE transit that can't pay for itself and needs huge taxpayer subsidies to operate. NOT.

So, the Gov. proposes a new tax increase to replace lost revenue from another new tax increase that he decided not to pursue? How is this lost revenue if it was never revenue in the first place. I love Gov't math.

You want the certifiable taxpayer sinkhole better known as light rail then users should pay.
