Target buys Cooking.com and Chefs Catalog

The retailer agreed to purchase Cooking.com and Chefs Catalog, which should broaden online options for Target customers.

Incredible. Cooking.com is relatively new to the housewares world (10-15 years). Chef's Catalog has been around a long time. I've purchased items from both retailers and they're very good with their service and breadth of products including high-end merchandise. Not sure if purchase price will become public, but I'm thinking Target paid a huge chunk of change for these two entities. I hope Chef's Catalog continues to carry high end products and won't change much with this new ownership.

This is all well and good but Target needs to bring its housewares division back the the "Glory Days" when Ron Johnson and his team made it the envy of the industry. It has the capacity, does it have the will????
