Is every instance of local population decline the equivalent of "dying"? If a given county is suffering from bad economic conditions, that's a real problem. But population can't grow forever. Do we really want to be as crowded as Japan? Or Bangladesh? Managing a leveling-out of the US population would be good public policy in the long run. Who wants to see 800 million Americans in a world with 20 billion people fighting over its resources?
