We don't need a national search, hire the in house talent.

This is an opportunity for MN state tax payers. With a change in leadership, the state investment in liberal arts need to be reassessed. Liberal arts are wonderful and a key part of our society; however, it is a luxury that should be paid for by those that can afford it at private colleges. We need to invest our limited State $$ in sciences, business and engineering. The students graduating from U of M liberal arts can seldom pay back their loans. Let's be smart and invest what we have in the right areas. Also we shouldn't take advantage of young adults and encourage them to take loans to get a liberal arts education and not be able to repay it.

The jaw-dropping number that isn't in the article is the cost for the "national search". I'm betting it's 60-200K.

Fair View Mar. 13, 1310:58 PM "The students graduating from U of M liberal arts can seldom pay back their loans." Please substantiate this very significant claim you make with evidence to show that it's true. Anyone with a decent education in the liberal arts should recognize that making a claim without supporting it with facts and other information is making a mere assertion, not engaging in the very positive, productive process of intellectual debate. The latter of which drives the development of people, policies, and practices and helps everyone discover and recognize truths. Without evidence, we can't give your claim necessary consideration in understanding the issues involved. Thanks.

May the very best come Jim Parente's way. He's done the University well, and himself proud, by his fine leadership.
