Obama's mission was to expand coverage to millions of people without increasing government spending... How could people not expect a huge rate hike?
The answer is simple - remove the for-profit insurers. Since the rapidly rising rates of the insurance companies managing the system forced a change, and now the insurance companies say they have to raise rates because of the change - get rid of the insurers. Universal health care, without whining insurers managing the system... Anyone think that the insurance companies are managing the health system - and they are the managers - for the good of the country, or are they managing the system to assure their profits? Even the most radical conservative has to agree that they manage it for profit, not for our good... My rates for my house and cars have increased as fast as my health care cost rises have lessened - less covered, larger deductible, no claims, and 10% higher premiums every year... with 1-2% inflation?... Enough - universal health care and cut out the middlemen. So what if the insurance industry percentage take of GDP shrinks back to pre-Reagan levels? Better for the country. Time to break the premium-increase cycle
hobie2 - The answer is simple - remove the for-profit insurers. ------------- Amen.
But Obama said my premiums would go down?
You mean it wasn't free?!
What did you expect? Providing additional coverages to more people costs more money. I'm amazed how this administration keeps insisting the opposite.
Hobie2, you do realize that this nations largest health insurer (Blue Cross Blue Shield) is a non-profit insurance company. Their rates are just as high as the "for profit insurers".
Health care as a business. How embarrassing. Making billions on people being sick. Unethical. The only reason to raise costs is because of politics. I work for a health care company and see millions of dollars in waste.. MILLIONS...
Ouch. Maybe Obama should have READ his signature legislation.
Oh, and a special thanks to Amy and Al who have passed the buck to us all AND have been instrumental in destroying the medical device industry here as well!
Great job all around, DEMOCRATS.
Universal Health care is not the answer. Removing the laws and allowing free trade between states for insurance will make it a competative market and drive costs down. The states should be able to create their own health care programs with assitance from the federal goverment. We are the United States of America. This health care program is just going to drive us further into debt. Iowa care and MN care are the only 2 state run programs that have made money and provide great healthcare for lower income families, Yet the goverment patterned Obamacare after the UK and Canada's programs. Both which are in Debt and have cut many life saving procedures and tests to offset the debt.
