"“People have said to me, well, did the U do what you asked?” said Sen. Terri Bonoff, DFL-Minnetonka, chairwoman of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee. “Absolutely, you did.”===================Wow, she digested the entire report and arrived at a conclusion. She put about as much time and effort into this as the Kaler has in doing his job.....very little.

The facts, as I understand them from this story, make Kaler look far worse. He's playing games. This is what the go-along to get-along higher ed crowd does. Give someone who has managed a comparable entity who has always worked in the private sector five business days to analyze and solve the problem. That person would not have come back with hiring some consultant. That person would have proposed his or her own restructuring. But no, Kaler needs to hide behind a consultant not proposing that much change. Go along. Get along. Continue to gorge at the public trough. One can only hope a few legislators will see though this and remind everyone about the stench at the trough.

He just doesn't get it. I don't know if it is ignorance or arrogance. Either is not what the state needs in a University leader. It is time to get someone that has the academic credentials, but some real world experience who can get her or his arms around this treasure/ declining, bloated, debacle. All the administrators, professors, and staff budgeted and we can't get up to mediocre in several fields of study. And tuition and fees rise at twice inflation. This is a glide path to disaster.

This is step one of one hundred necessary to reform the U and the legislature should not approve ninety one million to the U based on this. Until Mr Kaler actually shows results (how much did they save by improving span of control in dollars) nothing has been improved. Let's look at the overall org, high paid administrators, student to prof/TA ratio, etc. That is where they will find some huge opportunities.
