FAA approves Boeing plan to fix 787 Dreamliner's fire-plagued batteries, requires testing

Is this a jest on someone's part. Boeing is going to reinvent the Wheel? How long will the intended certification of a new system take? Are we also expected to believe that the lithium-ion batteries are going to be explosion proof in the futere? Are we also to believe that the safety measures which are to be put into place will be sufficient to allay any fears of fire/explosion etc. What will be the weight penalty for the enhanced safety measures? will the safety measures plus original/modified battery installation equal the potential fitment of a ni-cad battery system? I could go on and on but greater minds than mine have a panacea for this protracted problem!!
