Is the bad decision to suspend worthy of loosing your job? Would the resignation be tendered and accepted if the kids suspended were members of the debate club?

Now he understands, a little too late: don't anger hockey players and their parents.

I don't go to Westonka or know Mr. Koltes but I know back when I was in high school (not that long ago) a lot of officials including ADs got a big head and loved their power. I think some of these officials use their power simply to use it. Luckily it sounds like Mr. Koltes got called out on it and unfortunately for him it cost him his job.

Oh dear, I am sorry for the AD here. The pressure from the school board and parents seemed to be too much, and overwhelming. However, I think it should not be hard for him to get a new job. And I believe he was in the right.

Really. If the suspensions hadn't involved members of the hockey team and resulted in a serious consequence for the season, I doubt the result would have been the same. Can you imagine a similar outcome if the marching band members were involved. Hardly. There was a time when parents endorsed school officials. Disagreements occurred in public meetings and solutions involved future process. The athletic parents are wagging the dog, here, it seems. Very disappointing.

Power trip is over for Dion. Bye bye. Too bad this incompetent fool gets to collect more taxpayer $$$.

Zero-tolerance policies lead to zero common sense decisions. The AD made a snap decision based on incomplete evidence and thus, he deserves to lose his job. Schools should revisit their zero-tolerance policies and realize that all they do is take common sense and responsibility away from the administration. BTW, the last time I check, we live in country where the state has the burden of proof - it should be no different in schools when it comes to these types of situations. These players were judged before any evidence was brought forward.

He should have only resigned out of disgust for a lack of support from school administration.

This is news? I feel bad for the AD, he did his job the best to his ability. Anyway, time to move on people.

The school board meeting following the suspensions was packed... full of concerned Westonka parents extending well beyond the hockey team. Most had no children involved in this particular situation. Less than half the suspended students were hockey players. This issue made the news because of the lost playoff game but on the local level it was the result of a deeper, longer story. The external investigation is pending but for a clue this resignation is a sign of what it will likely reveal.
