Seems to me that this is all about their religion and really has nothing to do with their god. If they really wanted to have an effect on the poor and the suffering in the name of their lord, they would place a poor suffering person at the head of the church. But they are too rich to know what really goes on in the world. Soon, archaic institutions like this will all be history.

What upheaval and divisions are different than all the upheavals and divisions over the past 2000 years?

So, 17% of the world is Catholic and a new Pope dominates the headlines? Bill Maher is right: Its time for The Catholic church to pack it in and call it a day.

What a pompous display of buffoonery. Catholics spend WAY too much time worshiping their leaders while ignoring the teachings and word of Christ.

What a horrible waste of time, energy and money. "Who can over estimate the progress of the world if all the money wasted in superstition could be used to enlighten, elevate and civilize mankind?" - Robert Green Ingersoll

My we have hatered for the Catholic Church. Please don't comment on something you don't know anything about and may regret later. I would recommend "Go to Church"

Yeah, elfd52 – I guess there are things that I just don’t know about. I don’t know about the type of organization that would condemn condom use in third world countries even though they know that it would stop the spread of disease. I don’t know about the mindsets of people who would move abusive priests from place to place in order to protect the church. I don’t know about how a religion could cast out a 9-year-old girl for having an abortion after she was raped by her step-father and I certainly don’t know how that same religion could let her rapist continue to be a member. I don’t know about how much hatred it would take to consume one’s heart and lead them to take political action against a small group of society just because they disagree with their sexual orientation, while at the same time, leaving the liars in place in the very same political systems without protest even though “Thou Shall Not Lie” is one of the Ten Commandments. But one thing I do know is that religion is one of the most common excuses for hatred and bigotry in the world today. You want everyone to go to church? The best thing for everyone to do is to stay away from organized religion and stop trying to spread its idea of how everyone else should act. Because when you have an institution that can’t follow its own “teachings,” then you have no sane reason to latch onto it and tell everyone that it’s for the best.
