Cris Carter says the Vikings are ‘better off’

The Vikings great thought the organization did the right thing in moving Percy Harvin, and he liked what the team got in return.

I agree with the HOF/Vikings great, Cris Carter, that the Vikinghs are better off without Harvin. Still, its so hard to understand. What went wrong? Obviously, a lot has happened behind closed doors and we'll never be privy to that. I'm going to reserve judgement. At least until the Vikings braintrust has had a chance to remedy our weakened receiving corps. I'll be surprised if the Vikings don't make some noise in the free-agent frenzy tomorrow. Going to miss Percy.

Not much to digest or try to understand about it at all. Percy has always been a difficult player to coach. Period. When he abandoned the team, and the team played better without him, nothing more needs to be said. The Vikings just pulled off one of the best trades we have ever witnessed. They did it with a player with a horrible attitude. Me first all day long. Has abused many a coach. Vikes nursed him constantly through health issues. He idiotically says that he does not think Ponder is any good. Yet at that point, Ponder is his best friend on the field. Throwing to him every time down the field. There is something great about ridding a team of a never ending pestulance. Good riddance. This Viking team can now go forward with football players. leaving the ungrateful kids with bad attitudes for someone else. Wonder what kind of half year he has in 2013?

Percy Harvin was like getting drunk: Good at the moment, but waking up with a head-pounding hangover makes you question whether it was worth it in the cold light of day. With Percy, the Vikings grew sick and tired of being sick and tired. So did the fan base.

To me it has all sounded like more of a problem with coaches then players. I don't think Harvin can handle authority and I think he has one really bad temper to go along with the authority problem. In a case like that I could see some players missing him but I would have to think that the coaching staff is breathing one big sigh of relief. I think Harvin had to be a pain to work with for the coaches. They probably had to tip toe around his sensitive feelings. Harvin better be ready to face reality in Seattle or he will be the same thing there. Don't ever ever name your kid Percy. It's just too much for a kid to overcome.

Looking ahead this team can succeed without a high priced burner at receiver. Instead of huge money for one guy, the Vikes need 4 fast sure handed receivers. They are available in the second and middle rounds and via trades. Let's take two first round studs, a D back, or a linebacker, and not trade the two firsts to move up. This years draft group has more great and good players than usual with all the juniors, so it's up to Spielman..

As usual, I agree with Cris Carter on all points, the guy is savvy and would be a good person to add to the Vikings front offince someday.

fwallen, i don't think we'll move up... if anything we'll move down. my two guesses are we trade down with one of the firsts and get a later first and a third, or a second and a third... or we trade down to get a later first and a second, then use that later first to send to nyg as tender cost for cruz.

Agreed Vikes did the right thing it getting the best deal they could for him but his attitude and off field problems should not have come at a suprise. I can't say Spielman did a good job when the mistake was drafting the headache in the first place. What did he expect?

Hard to argue with Carter. Recall the Moss drama parts 1 and 2? And it's great to see the organization rid themselves of a malcontent. Remember Adrian supporting Ponder after his critical INTs in the regular season GB loss? Sounds like Percy threw Ponder under the bus. To get a 1st rd pick plus 2 others is tremendous for a player with major issues (migraines, drug use, attitude). We can use one pick to get a WR either from the draft or RFA trade and the other to get a solid run stuffer on the D-line. And finally a degree of redemption from the Herschel Walker trade!

Speilman ruined the Dolphins when he was in Miami now he's coing to ruin the Vikings. What a bunch of idiots! I been a die hard Vikings fan since 1961,no matter what happened. I knew when Speilman went to Minnesota he would ruin the Vikings just like Miami. That's it, I'm through with the Vikings. I'm NO longer a fan!! Time to find a new team & wardrobe.
