This is what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum. Is this a school, or some kind of social club? No wonder our schools are failing. The students feel 'entitled' to try to run the school the way they see fit. Perhaps they should focus on some actual LEARNING instead.

Comments made on the news from the students were intelligent, respectfully asking that the school take some role in helping the youth become more diversified by "learning about each others cultures and therefore learn about each other" No Police, No Violence. Strong work young people!

I can only think "maturity beyond their years." Kudos to you, Tigers.

I'm so grateful for these kids! Their (our) point of view they demanded and made happen, in the best way. It was a celebration of the native culture, respectful to all others, and an honest attempt to jab at inequalities or biases. So cool. What these kids was way more educational (for all of us) than them sitting in gym class. Well done, y'all.

I guess i can sympathize up to a point. Sorry kids, no burning of anything on school grounds, for any culture. If it's only about making sure the school embraces all cultures and wishes to cross-teach them to all then fine but.. If this is a way to just get ur own culture more, then no. Have the school implement a "Cross-Culture" type of class that is mandatory for all. We need our schools during the hours of 8-4 teaching/giving our kids the knowledge and the skills to be able to function and move on in life. This country is severely lacking in the world right now with regards to schooling, I wonder why. We must figure this out.

Perhaps the 'asylum' will change for the better? The good Lord knows we need active and engaged citizens to confront injustice in our society. Maybe they will be the ones that won't tolerate CEO salaries that are 380 times the AVERAGE worker's salary.

So, these same students go to work in an office with hundreds of others. Does this carry on? No Texting but drumming while driving is OK. Let's place common sense in place of insanity.

Sounds like students were respectful and clear in what they were asking for...fundamentally for greater understanding and respect. Sounds like MPS people are listening. Hope there is progress.

There is a time and place for everything. To incorporate the students wishes into the regular hours of the school day is probably a bit of a stretch. To implement and incorporate an after school plan to accomodate these students is probably the most appropriate way to go. If you want to include these activities during regular school hours, you are just opening up a can of worms to fire up the "prayer in school" debate (again).

If we had dared do anything like this.....unreal. And the MPS wonders why they are losing students to private schools and open enrollment.....I live in the city and will not send my children to these schools.
