I watched CSU and Iverson play on the tube tonight - and was kind of shocked by having missed a big difference between MN and some other teams use of big men, so I went back and watched some of the tape of the MN game and some other games... Nearly all the tall men DO NOT go beyond the 3 point line, or within a step of it, even to set picks - guards set picks for each other out there. Eliason was 2-3 steps BEYOND the 3 point line on almost every offense today... Now think on that - Smith has a 7 footer out doing what a 6 foot guard can do just as well. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON that requires a 7 footer - or a 6-8 big - out there. So what is Smith thinking? What is he doing?.. Osineiks (6-8) was out on the 3-point line dribbling and handling and got his pocket picked by a 6-1 guard. Who could have guessed that was coming? MN is on an island in its use of bigs.

Asked how the team can mend that negative trend as it heads into more games away from Williams Arena during the conference tournament and (most likely) the NCAA tournament, Gophers coach Tubby Smith seemed out of ideas. “We just keep doing what we’re doing,” he said. Maybe Tubby should try something different because what you are doing ISN'T WORKING!!!!
