It's really sad to see a team with so much promise and such a great start (15-1) fall so sharply. I am disappointed in Coach Smith as he hasn't done what we all expected he'd do after 6 seasons. Fundamentals, player development, road performance and recruiting are way below par. Time for the Gophers to start from scratch (again) with a new coach.

Think on this - they have leaders, and they don't need "one". They don't... Why exactly do they need "a leader"? To point at someone and say "defend", and the player suddenly goes "Oh, OK, leader, I forgot to defend."?.. Do they need a person to be the one player who is responsible for getting players "up"? Why? So when it doesn't go well, we all can point to "the one" and say "Well, HE's the leader, so it's his fault.".. What are they - a basketball team or a software program?... In combat, men die. Do you really think that we all just died when a leader was wounded or killed? Really?... The players ALL have to be leaders - EVERY ONE!.. And that is the problem - Smith carps and blames and points out mistakes - and he pulls players when they make a mistake. He never let them all learn and take responsibility to their team mates on their own and self correct. So when one player has a bad day, the next doesn't fill in to make it happen. It's basketball micro-managed by bureaucrats.

Pathetic season. Tubby's most talented team falls to a 9th place finish in the Big Ten. No injuries or anything to blame it on. Sorry Tubby, it's time to go!

Gopher basketball is further proof that college athletics provide nothing more to universities than a vehicle to get TV money.

I am seeing it like this -- Bob Knight demanded that his players all learn basketball and want to win. Marines demand that any Marine step in and take the objective when others fall. The MN staff demands that the players do things their way... The first gave players broad perspective, opportunity, and a goal. The second gives men perspective, opportunity, and a clear goal. The last gives players things to perform correctly - you don't develop leaders using spreadsheet management.

We've got to get this season over. It is unbearable. A person can't watch it. I think Tubby wants to run out the door too. Can we call the Big 10 and say everyone has the flu, we can't compete anymore this year. This is basketball water boarding for team coach and fans.

If I was the president of the U of M, I would refuse any bid to any post season tournament unless they win at least 2 games in the Big 10 tournament....A decent intramural team has a better idea on how to play BB than these Gophers.

I apologize to the fans who were mad when I called this a 7-8th place B1G team back in November. I was too optimistic. On the other hand, Poser maintained his B1G winning percentage with an 8-10 finish, and his overall 64% is better than his six-year average. For the apologists, you can cheer that this team won 20 games!!! For those who thought this was the "best" MN team in Poser's era, keep in mind that it is a very poor team. A bunch of guys who have athletic ability, lots of experience, and are one-dimensional, predictable and posses poor BB fundamental abilities. I mention this because the horrible recruiting class that Poser is bringing in is just more of the same. Next season, without Mbakwe, who is the only player on the team who would play significant minutes on any of the top 5 B1G teams, will be humiliating. Look for 2-3 tranfers after this season is over. However, have faith - that great "high profile" coach will return. Teague has no more sense, nor testosterone, than Maturi.

Jerry Kill thinks that the solution is easy for the basketball Gophers. He said Tubby just needs to pay eight teams to not play us any more. That will only be about $800,000 per or a mere $6.4 million. With the expansion of the big 10, we should still have 4 or 5 teams to play. The other idea is to maybe find a more menacing mascot than the little gopher that is food for most other mascots. Is there a wimpier mascot out there? I know that we are the gopher state but come on, we have a few other animals too that are not the wimpiest rodent ever! OK, maybe we have mice beat, so don't change it to the Minnesota Mouses.

Given the way his team has rolled over and died since that hot start, Tubby just needs to go. What a train wreck. I haven't been this mad in a long time. There's no way talent wise this team should be anywhere south of 10/11 wins in the Big 10 regular season and here we are 8-10. I don't think even 2 wins in the NCAA's (and reaching the Sweet 16) will save Tubby. At least, I hope it doesn't.
