Give this one to the refs! Terrible call at the end to put St. Thomas on the power play.

It would have been nice to see Hermantown pull out the championship for once. They must be good to hang with STA when other teams got smoked by them.

An understanadably disappointing end for Hermantown, but the school's success in hockey overall is very impressive. Clearly, the Hawks have shown themselves able to play on a level with the big schools. Might Hermantown consider moving up to Class AA, too? Or will it stay where it is and become the new leading powerhouse program that overwhelms the others in Class A?

Too bad the referee that made that holding call didn't consider that both players were actually holding each other so it should have been a no call. If that was a holding then certainly the head lock that was put on Zelesinickar impeding him to get back into the play at the end should have been called. This one was obvious as where the other was a no call. Too bad in a game like this the kids weren't left to decide it. Can't really blame the Hawks coaches for being up set but probably shouldn't have gone after the official although emotions were running pretty high. Although it was a nice gift the official gave to STA with the call it was at such a crutial time in the game the Hawks never had a chance to respond. That was actually the only blemish on a well played game by both teams.

the ref that called the holding penalty in the last 2 minutes of a state championship should get some kind of award

Its a shame the players didn't get the chance to show us which was the better team... the refs decided this one

Congrats to the Cadets on the win. Hermantown put up a great fight. Now on the the holding call with under two minutes left. Was it a penalty yes, do you call it at that point of the game when no scoring chance was taken away, no. If you have decided to make that call though which is your right, how in the world do you not call the mugging from the Cadet player with 12 seconds left. If one is so obvious you have to call it how is the other not obvious. I thought someone should have went and made sure he still had his wallet. Bottom line is you should not make either call and decide a championship.

Hermantown coach and players again show no class.

blinkfandan2Mar. 9, 13 3:39 PM

Sad that the outcome was decided on a botched no-call but at the same time Hermantown let STA get back in the game. Both teams played great and deserved to win. Unfortunately crappy things happen in life and this is a great learning opportunity for the Hermantown team.

Hermantown got a call back when a Cadets defenseman was pulled down on a fight for the puck at the Saint Thomas blue-line at just over a minute left in the third period. The refs swallowed their whistles on that one, which allowed Hermantown the opportunity to work the puck toward the net and nearly score.
