Souhan: Wolves' Rubio displays a work ethic worth emulating

  • Article by: JIM SOUHAN , Star Tribune

Ricky Rubio is fast becoming a fire hazard. Nobody so bony, with that much hair, should be creating that much friction with the hardwood.

Excellent as always Jim, and very much appreciated you writing and sharing the story with us!

Excellent column! I admire Kirby as much for that hustle down the first base line on every groundball as for the two World Series Titles. If you want a local NBA reference, that is why for those opening years fans enjoyed the T-Wolves even though they were bad, because they played extremely hard. Mr. Musselman made sure of it.

Great article. Rubio is what's great about sports at any level - unfortunately we see this sort of pure passion and love for the game far too little these days. So glad to see the kid is back near 100% again and feeling good. I hope the Wolves can get healthy and build the team around him that he deserves.

Great article and great reminder that there's no secret to excellence--no matter the talent, hard work and a great attitude are the keys. Mr. Souhan's article about Rubio reminds me of another I read two days back in the Duluth News Tribune about Anders Broman, the Lakeview Christian high schooler who is set to surpass 5000 points this week. His days start at 5am on the court at the Duluth YMCA and end with 400 made shots after high school practice is over in the late afternoon. No magic formula or deal with the devil, just a decision to put in the work and the proper attitude to follow through. Guys like Rubio and Broman remind me of what we're all capable of. Hats off to you!

Rubio still can't shoot though.

And they still steal the ball from him far too often.

Krellcoda is right. His shooting has to improve to meet minimal NBA standards.

maybe this is why the wolves are saving the max contract for Rubio instead of Love getting it...

It would be nice if Rubio can spend an entire off season working on his shot....rather than rehabbing a torn ACL

I love Rubio and how he has been playing lately, though I think he also played a role in some lost games because of his poor shooting. I love his ethic, but I am worried not that he will spontaneously combust, as Souhan jests, but that he will burn out if he plays so wildly every night--or reinjure himself. Souhan is right that we need Budinger and a motivated Love back in the lineup so that Ricky doesn't have to try to do it all every game.
