I am all for the Band branching out beyond casinos to support their members. I also think we should boycott all their business ventures until they get the nets out of Mille Lacs Lake.

Just think what the citizens of Minnesota could invest in if the monopoly(illegal to other businesses) the tribes hold on casino gambling was eliminated. But I guess raising taxes on the good citizens by expanding sales tax is just as credible . Thanks Mr. Dayton and all the cowardly politicians who recieve political donations from the casino owners.

I would assume they are paying State sales and property taxes on this unlike all their other ventures. Not one dime of my money until they stop netting Mille Lac's.

Corporations can log on public lands but when native americans net on pubic lakes it is an outcry. Support Freedumb.

They are still having to pay taxes on those properties though right? Or will it eventually be deemed "reservation" and taxes will cease?

Next move: Attempt to purchase the Macy's site and convert it into a casino.

Remember, when the topic is tribal the usual standards in journalism and politics get tossed. Obvious questions and relevant info don't come your way. Why no vote by Band members on such a major investment? Democrat Jim Graves was U. S. Rep. Michele Bachmann's opponent. Dollar and political relationships between him and Mille Lacs Band (MLB) government? Given the obvious wealth of MLB government and Corporate Commission, how many million federal tax dollars flow to MLB tribal administration and programs? MLB campaign contributions to whom in state and national elections? It's a given that the tribal lobby is super-powerful from St. Paul to Washington, D. C. The whats, whoms, wheres of their lobbying? And what are the salaries of tribal government employees who will set 100-foot gill nets ("subsistence fishing") on the Mille Lacs walleye spawning grounds this spring?

Unrelated topic of netting on Mille Lacs is related to Federal court decision caused by loss of agreement by tribes and State, brokered by then Gov Arne Carlson; the Bud Grant led mob of uninformed outdoors activists caused legislature to drop the agreement; tribe sued and won in court. Decisions have consequences!

jackpinsav- the Supreme Court decision was atrocious, mostly due to the non-existent defense put forth by Little Skippy in district court, but it is still vastly BETTER than the wholesale giveaway Carlson brokered. Bill G.
