Some manufacturing jobs will be lost to Mexico, but that’s now only a small part of the work done on Big Blue’s campus in Rochester.

At least IBM will keep getting their tax breaks for sending those lousy 200 MN jobs to Mexico. Thanks to your fine GOP representatives in the House.

ubetcha101, you are in denial if you think healthcare wasn't broken before Obama took office.

And the Dems want to raise minimum wage to as high as $10.55 an hour. Brilliant.

The way things are going we might want to hold off on securing that Mexican border. After all we might need to hitchhike down there, cross the border and look for work.

So some people are saying that Obamacare and the new talks about minimum wage is the cause for IBM to move 200 jobs to Mexico? Would you care to ask the 200 families what they think of your statement? No, there is only one reason why IBM is moving this out of the country, and until the middle class understands about this greed factor, it is going to continue to happen. My only regret? IBM products are aimed at someone other than the general middle class consumer. I have not bought a product made by Polaris, and if I have a chance, I will buy the competitors product instead of anything made by IBM. I hope the profits from the 200 middle class families, now destined to be on unemployment, is worth the public relations problem IBM is going to have.

PS... I listened to a lot of media reports about this move, and heard several times that it was the result of "the global economy." If your employer starts using that phrase, you better consider learning Madarin Chinese, Vietnamese, or Spanish. Every time I hear that phrase, I feel sorry for the middle class who just dropped a notch to lower middle class.

Keep an eye out for union friendly policies proposed by your democrat lackies as well. It's a wonder if MN will have any business left by 2014!

Perhaps the new Vikings stadium should be constructed in Rochester, MN. That way, the Metrodome could be "Saved" for High School events, etc. Just think of all the jobs that a Rochester, MN stadium would bring to the area! More than enough to offset the number of jobs that IBM is moving to NY and Mexico. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton should consider a Rochester, MN stadium.

It's amazing at how naive the comments are about this story, but it's probably from the lack of complete information from the writer. The IBM Rochester plant has been in decline for nearly two decades. At its peak, they employed around 8,000, not the 4,200 mentioned in the story. Also, taxes, Obamacare, etc. probably played little or no part of the decision to move these operations. More than likely it was the cost to maintain a relatively small operation in such a large facility (nearly the size of the Mall of America). This move appears to continue the trend of IBM to divest itself of producing hardware (PC Division to Lenovo, printers to LexMark, etc.) and grow the more profitable services operation.
