JT Rybak was a serious candidate but turned out to be a frivolous leader. What sort of fee can prevent that in the future?

If you don't have $500 your not a candidate, really your not. Maybe they should make it $5,000 and if you get 10% of the votes you get it back, if not they split it between those who did. Only serious candidates need apply.

Unacceptable. Discouraging candidates is now the new DFL agenda? Unacceptable and probably illegal. Sounds like some lawyers are going to make money of this loser idea.

"If you don't have $500 your not a candidate, really your not.' - if youre citizen and not otherwise ineligible, you have a right to ask to represent others. You can't impose any poll tax on this basic right of self representation and civic involvement of citizens. $10 is too much. $1 is. We should be encouraging anyone not of the monied class who thinks they have a better responsibility level to apply for these positions.

Again, the fallacy that a majority (50%) of votes is required to win under RCV is put forth in an article that includes a reference to the RCV method of voting. That is NOT what happened in my park board race in 2009 -- I won with 46.9% -- check the record. As under the previous and most common voting system, it's the candidate with the greatest number of votes who wins.

Maybe if politicians served without pay and considered it a duty to serve the outcome of a race would be different. When politician became a carrier is when the system broke!
